For sale is a lovely teacup and saucer made by Royal Albert of Longton, England. The pattern is known as "Regal Series" and the cup shape is known as Montrose. The cup measures approximately 2 3/4" tall and 3 7/16" wide at the rim of the cup. The handle is approximately 3 1/16"at it's highest point. The footed base measures 1 3/4" wide. The saucer is 15/16" tall and is 5 7/16" in diameter.
The "Regal Series" displays a band of color on the lower half of the cup and the center of the saucer which is a labeled as Rust on the Royal Albert pattern website. This color is listed under the "Demitasse sets" section which shows this pattern was very popular. This website shows there were 21 colors made in this particular series and even done in pastels. How exciting for a collector of this pattern! The upper portion of the cup and foot are white as well as a 7/8" band surrounding the center on the saucer. The cup is adorned in a gold trailing floral pattern on the outer surface over the band of white and down into the burgundy band on the cup. There is a gold floral decoration is on the interior as well. The rim, foot and handle are trimmed with gold as well as the scalloped edge of the saucer. The saucer is decorated in the same fashion as the cup.
Royal Albert has a history and reputation for being able to cater to people from all walks of life, from modest to the most exquisite taste. Many of their early wares were commemorative to the Royal family. The founder, Thomas Wild, had a love for flowers which inspired many of the patterns.
The teacup and saucer are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. It looks like it was never used as I do not see any gold loss. The pieces are signed "Royal Albert, Bone China, England" in black and "Regal Series" in red. This cup was made circa 1970's.
