For sale is a lovely teacup, saucer and bread plate set made by Royal Vale of Staffordshire, England. The pattern is known as pattern number 7382 and is a delightful pattern. The cup measures 2 5/8" tall and 3 3/8" wide at the rim of the cup. The rim of the cup is slightly scalloped. The base of the cup measures 1 11/16" wide. The saucer is 7/8" tall and is 5 7/16" in diameter.
The pattern consists of an English cottage with a cottage garden in full bloom on the front side of the cup for the right handed tea drinker. The flowers are lush on each side of a path to the front door of the cottage. They are in full bloom, with pastel pinks, purples and blues in stylized blooms. There are trees in the background behind the house with a beautiful blue sky and puffy white clouds. The interior of the cup has a smaller display of the garden adorning the interior for the right handed tea drinker to view. The pattern on the backside of the cup is the same scene as the interior.The rim, foot and handle are trimmed with 24k gold. The saucer has a complimentary scenic design that are shown on the teacup.
The cup and saucer are in excellent condition as there are no chips, cracks, nicks or dings.
Royal Vale was manufactured by Ridgway Potteries Ltd. which also produced Colclough china along with a handful of other well known potters. The Ridgway era is later than the Colclough and there are two different stamps to help with dating on figuring out time stamps. This particular set was made circa 1953-1964. It has the following signature. There is a black ink crown stamp at the top followed by "Bone China" in an oval fashion. Underneath that are the letter and numbers "C 36 7". Under that is "Royal Vale" in red ink followed by "Made in England" in black also in oval fashion to complete the imaginary circle. Underneath that is "A Product of Ridgway Pottery Ltd" in black ink stamp. Lastly, is the handwritten"Patt No 7382" in green ink.
