For sale is a lovely teacup and saucer made by Paragon of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The pattern is known as "Oriana" which is one of a series known as the "Six World Famous Roses". The cup measures 3 1/8" tall at the handles highest measurement. The actual cup measures 2 7/8" tall and is 3 1/4" wide at the rim of the cup. The footed base measures 1 5/8" wide. The saucer is approximately 7/8" tall and is 5 1/2" in diameter.
The pattern depicts beautiful 2 tone roses in full bloom and rosebuds adorning the upper half of the teacup. The footed cup is trimmed in 24k gold on the rim, handle and foot. The saucer depicts the same decoration with roses all along the outer border of the plate. The plate is finished with the typical gold trim on the edge.The roses have magenta red petals that fade to a cream to pale yellow centers, There is also detailed foliage surrounding the flowers. The interior of the tea cup is a soft pink blush.
Paragon has a history and reputation of producing high quality tea sets and fine china. They were granted royal warrants of appointment by many members of the Royal Family. They were originally the Star China Company and have an illustrious intertwined history among many talented potters of the day and region. The teacup and saucer are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The pieces are signed "By Appointment To Her Majesty The Queen China Potters PARAGON Fine Bone China England Reg'd" along with the crest known as the Warrant. It is further marked with "Six World Famous Roses", "Harry Wheatcroft" and finally "Oriana". The teacup has a classic look that will accent a teacup collection nicely or make a perfect gift. The cup was made circa 1950's.
