For sale is a very nice desk set item made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The pattern is the ever popular and highly collected "Grapevine" desk set pattern. The desk set item is a "Picture Frame". The picture frame is rather large as it measures 9 1/8" tall 7 9/16' wide. When standing with the easel back open it stands 8 9/16" tall. The actual front size of the picture opening is 3 7/8" wide by 5 7/16" tall. It will hold a picture that measures 4" wide by 5 3/4" tall.
The picture frame displays a very nice real gold plated patina. The gold patina is balanced front and back as you can see from the picture of the back of the lead line that it is gold plated. The acid etched pattern of grapes, leaves and stems has been a popular pattern among LCT Tiffany collectors for many years. The frame has the beige or caramel slag Favrile opalescent glass and is very popular among Tiffany Studios Grapevine desk set pattern collectors. The frame is supported on the back with an easel style hinge and is original to the piece and works just fine.
The frame is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings to any of the glass. The gold patina shows minor wear and is also considered to be in excellent condition. The only issue is some crimping in the back plate top outer frame. It appears that someone didn't realize that the back plate was removed by sliding it to the right. It appears that they tried to open it by bending back the metal. This cannot be seen when displayed and is pictured. The picture frame is signed on the back with Tiffany's impressed "Tiffany Studios New York" mark along with the pattern number "947" also impressed.
This frame has great glass and a good patina. Truly a quality find in very good to excellent condition. This picture frame was made circa 1902-1915. Tiffany started numbering his desk set pieces usually with a 3 digit number after 1902.
