Quezal,

$2,595.00

For sale is a beautiful decorated art glass floriform vase made by The Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company of Maspeth (Queens), Long Island New York. This vase has some size as it stands just shy of 8" at 7 7/8" tall and has a diameter of 6 1/2" at its widest point at the top. The round foot has a diameter of 3 1/2".

This vase has a nice floriform shape. The vase starts out with a round foot with a stem that rises up from it.The vessel tapers out and up forming a flower shaped top opening. The top opening resembles that of a flower with eight petals or ruffles. The vase is decorated in the green pulled feather pattern throughout. As an added bonus this is a gold zipper pattern over the green feather pulls on the top side of the foot adding tremendous beauty to the piece. The interior also has this same brilliant gold iridescence interior. The interior is a brilliant gold with onion skin texture along it outer edge giving this vase its added realism. The foot of the vase has a fine rolled edge with a small border outlining the bottom edge underneath.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. This vase is extremely clean and shows minimal signs of use. There is NO calcium deposits inside the vase what so ever. This vase has a beautiful polished counter sunk pontil. It is signed on the bottom with the acid etched "Quezal" cipher along with the letter "N" and the number "543".

Martin Bach Sr. was the founder of Quezal. He worked for L.C.T. Tiffany Studios from 1892-1902. The quality of his glass was as good as Tiffany, Steuben and Loetz. The Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Co was in business from 1902-1924. Quezal art glass pieces rarely come up in today's market. They were more noted for their art glass lighting shades which they produced by the tens of thousands. It appears that the collectors do not want to let vases go. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase.

It is my belief that Quezal used a Lettering System similar to L.C. T. Tiffany Favrile. Tiffany used a prefix letter and a suffix letter before a number. Since Quezal started much later than Tiffany is lettering system stood by a single letter. Since Quezal started producing glass in 1902 it is my belief that they used the letter "A" for this year. In 1903 was the letter 'B" and so on. Since mine has the letter "S" it is my belief that this vase was made circa 1915.
