This bulb bowl or planter is a nice size as it is approximately 7 1/2" in diameter and 2 3/16" tall. The bowl has a top opening of approximately 5 7/8" inside diameter. The bottom measures 4 5/8" in diameter. The planter has a very pleasing low profile shape with rounded sides. The exterior glaze is a frothy blue green glaze that is not so commonly found. The interior has a deep brown waterproofing glaze. These glazes were applied on red clay as this was the color that Merrimac used. The interior of the bowl shows the fingertips indents in the clay from the spinning on the potters wheel.
The bowl is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no cracks, or chips. There is a harmless glaze fleck on the inside top lip. Didn't notice it till I put it under a bright light. I actually thought it was a glaze miss. The vase is signed with Merrimac's "Sturgeon" impressed fish mark with "MERRIMAC" in block letters impressed just above that. Merrimac Pottery is considered rare Pottery. You do not come across it all that often. They were in business for a short time, roughly 6 years 1902-1908. If I find 2 or 3 pieces a year that would be a lot. The pottery is well made and has good weight and density for their forms, this one included. This glaze is very pleasing and I'm quite sure the buyer will be quite happy with their purchase. The planter or low bowl was made 1902-1908. SHIPPING $25
