For sale is a very delicate piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is a "Gold Tadpole" Sherry. Tiffany called this pattern design "Merovignian". The Sherry is done in Tiffany's highly sought after Gold Favrile iridescent glass. This Sherry is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 7/8" tall and has a diameter of approximately 2 3/8" at the top. The foot has a diameter of 1 5/8".

This Sherry is corseted with flaring top opening shape. It displays an outstanding Gold Favrile iridescence to it. The color is brilliant and displays very beautiful hues strong fuchsia coloring throughout. When held at an angle you can see all the colors of the rainbow. There are a total of 8 applied tadpole looking appliques on the exterior surface. There are 4 high and 4 tadpole shapes appliques that sit in between these. The tadpoles are pointed towards the top lip with very slender tails that extend down to the bottom and over to the underside edge. The liqueur looks metallic yet it is ever so fragile glass. Looking inside the glass it has strong hues of purple iridescence.

This Sherry is considered to be in excellent original condition as there are no cracks, chips or. There isn't even a flea nick in any the tails and these are extremely hard top find without damage. The only issue is a small section of along the bottom has imperfections in the iridescence. This is towards the bottom and is very hard to see when displayed. This is not damage as it was made this way. There are pictures of this area as well. The bottom has a counter sunk polished pontil. The finishing mark of a quality piece of art glass. The vase is properly signed with the etched script signature mark "L.C.T. H 1130 ". Since the Sherry has a prefix letter before the number we are able to date as to when this piece was made. This liqueur was made circa 1897. This is considered very early in the Tiffany Favrile production years.

This is a quality piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The gold Favrile, Aurene iridescence is just outstanding!! This is a very nice example of this form and color. To find these without any of the tails missing glass is quite hard to find. I'm sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase.

I have attached a black and white page from an early Tiffany catalog. You will see this shape documented.
