For sale is a beautiful reverse painted table lamp made by The Pittsburgh Lamp and Brass Company of Pittsburgh, PA. This table lamp is a scenic reverse painted boudoir. The table lamp is mid size lamp as it stands 17 1/2" tall and the shade has a diameter of 10 1/4". The base has a diameter of 5 7/8".
The shade blank is blown in a mold in which it has 4 paneled reverse painted scenes. These vertical panels have a low relief texture on the outside. The texture inside looks like a mock acid etched finish. The shade displays a very vibrant and colorful river scene with country fields, roads and trees. These are painted in 4 separate scenes. The color of the sky gives you the feeling of sunset scenes. There are deep purples, greens, and soft gold tones. The shade sits on a antique gold tone base with a raised or embossed pattern of Ivy and Berry. This base couldn't compliment the shade any better. The lamp works wonderful with a single push through socket to turn it on.
The table lamp is considered to be in excellent condition and as I really can't find any excuses for it. The condition of the shade and base is outstanding for nearly 85 years of use. You simply do not find lamps in this condition anymore. Everything is original except for the antique style gold rayon cord, even the plug is original. The shade has no chips or dings and the base shows minor wear. The lamp has no signature on it but it is a documented lamp in "The Better Electric Lamps Book of the 20's and 30's ". The shade is on page 138 but it is sitting on a different base that what I have.
Purchase with confidence as these reverse painted lamps are much more affordable than The Handel and Pairpoint lamps. They are a worthy investment that has risen steadily for the past 30 years. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase.
This lamp will have to be shipped in 2 boxes the base in one and the base in another.
