For sale is a very nice piece of Art Pottery made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The form is a tapered footed one with an arts and crafts theme or pattern. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it measures 5 7/8" tall and is approximately 3 1/2" in diameter at the bottom bulge or swell. The rim measures 1 3/4" in diameter inside measurement.
The vase has a tapered swollen shape with 4 platform raised feet. The background glaze is a wonderful and pleasing early matte pea green glaze that has some nice brown overtones along the bottom. The embossed raised design of carved Butterflies with their wings almost touching is quite nice. This is a hard to find form and even harder to find in this glaze.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase is signed on the underside bottom with Rookwood's reverse "RP" Sunburst Logo along with the Roman Numerals "XXVIII" for the year of manufacture, 1928 and form number 2072. This vase would look outstanding on that Stickley, mission, arts and crafts style bookcase. I'm sure the buyer will be quite pleased with their purchase.
