For sale is a beautiful art glass vase made by Loetz Klostermuehle of Bohemia which is now the modern day Czech Republic. The pattern is called "Papillon" which means "Butterfly" and is highly desirable. It is considered one of the most collected patterns produced by the artist at Loetz. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 5 5/8" tall and has a diameter of 4 1/4" outside handles measurement. The bottom of the vase has a diameter of 2". The very top lip has a diameter of 2 5/8" outside measurement.
The vase displays a very pleasing classic Grecian urn shape with 2 applied cobalt blue handles. The handles are scrolled and reeded with iridescence to it. It has a nice fire polished rolled top lip. This vase is wonderfully executed on a cobalt blue base glass. This vase has an outstanding Blue Papillon or Oil Spot decoration. The elongated mottles are tightly packed next to each other in a vertical fashion. The iridescence is just outstanding as you can see vivid colors of strong platinum blues and purple peacock blues along the bottom. The mottles are distinct and plentiful.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. You can see an inclusion (carbon spot) in the neck area of the vase. This is typical of this decor. This piece is signed inside of the counter sunk polished pontil with Loetz's acid stamp "CZECHO SLOVAKI" inside an oval mark. This dates this vase to have been made after 1918.
This is a must to own vase for Loetz art glass collectors. This decor color, shape and execution is superb. This vase was made circa 1918-1930
