Northwood

$160.00

For sale is a beautiful piece of carnival glass made by The Northwood Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia. The pattern is known as "Good Luck" and the shape is a bowl that has a pie crust edge. The bowl measures 2" tall and is 8 7/8" wide. It has a thin base that has a diameter of 3 1/2".

The pattern depicts a horseshoe in the center of the bowl with a riding crop going through the middle of it. The words "GOOD LUCK" are above the horseshoe in the center of the bowl. There is a wreath of wild flowers, wheat spray and berries encircling the center decoration and the background of this area is stippled. Finally it is finished with a pie crust edge. The color of this beauty is known as pastel marigold which is clear to which the iridescence is applied. This considered rare as the only example of pastel marigold I can find is in plate form. The iridescence is on the front side only and it's spectacular. Soft gold tones with teal and fuchsia in a satin finish are just stunning. The backside of the bowl has a ribbed pattern with no iridescence. You can see the clear glass through the backside and tell that the fuming is only applied to the front side with no color in the glass at all. This is an exceptionally crisp mold of this bowl and is considered an excellent example.

The piece is in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The piece is not signed but is a well documented pattern. Here is your chance to own a rare piece of carnival glass that is a great pattern. This bowl was made circa 1911-1917.
