For sale is a a nice vase made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a great arts and crafts shaped vessel. I would call this a "Swollen Buttress Handle" vase. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it measures 4 1/2" tall and is 4 1/4" wide outside handle measurements.
The vase displays a swollen form. The vase is further accented with 2 buttress handles on each side of the top opening. The handles start at the top of the vase and come down to the waist. The vase has a semi gloss robins egg blue with a hint of green glaze. The handles have very sharp angles to them and really give this piece all of its' character.
The vase is in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The piece is signed on the bottom with Rookwood's "Reverse RP and Sunburst Logo" along with the Roman numerals XXVII for the year of manufacturing, 1927. It also has the mold number "63" impressed into the bottom.
This is an early shape created by Rookwood as you can tell by the low shape number. Those of you who collect arts and crafts shaped pottery will surely welcome this vase into their collection. This is a wonderful arts and crafts vase and will look great on any Stickley or Mission style furniture.
