For sale is a very nice piece of art pottery made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The form is a ovoid shaped vase and it has an Arts and Crafts embossed motif. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it measures 6 1/2" tall and is approximately 3" in diameter at the shoulder. The rim measures 1 5/16" in diameter inside rim measurement.
The vase has a unique ovoid shape with short neck. It is accented with embossed stylized berries and leaves that surrounds the neck of the vessel. The background glaze is a very pleasing matte purple or lilac glaze. This is also known as a Wisteria glaze. These embossed designs in this glaze is very popular among those decorating in the Arts and Crafts style decor.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is a small deep blue glaze spot on one side and this is pictured. The vase is signed on the underside bottom with Rookwood's Impressed Reverse "RP" sunburst logo along with the Roman Numerals "XXIII" for the year of manufacture, 1923 and form number 2115.
This is not a commonly found shape or glaze to find. These Wisteria, purple lilac vases are highly sought after. This would look outstanding on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style bookcase. I'm sure the buyer will be quite pleased with their purchase.
