Steuben,

Sold

For sale is a wonderful piece of art glass blown by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. The item is a very hard to find "Spiral Ribbed" vase and it is done in Frederick Carder's most desirable and hard to find Selenium Red art glass. The vase has some size as it stands 6 5/8" tall and is 6 3/8" in diameter. The foot has a diameter of 4".

The vase has that tapered swollen shape and it displays an outstanding Selenium Red style of art glass. The vase displays a raised swirl ribbing along the exterior portion of the vase. The ribs are plentiful an executed tighter and more numerous than I have seen on the Aurene pieces I have had in the past with this same shape or form number. These rise up from a round or circular foot that is hand formed out of the same piece of glass. The foot on this vase is not a separate piece of glass but made out of the same as the body.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The bottom outer edge has scratches and is consistent with it age. The inside of the vase is extremely clean and shows no signs of calcium deposits. The piece is signed on the bottom with the "Fleur de Lis" etched mark and this is pictured. The vase does display a counter sunk polished pontil. This is the finishing mark of a quality piece of art glass. This vase is known as shape number "6031" in the Steuben catalog pages. Those of you who are not sure this is a Steuben vase I will attach a link for you to view this shape on the Steuben Club Shape Website.

This is one of the rarest forms to find in Selenium Red. I was only able to document this form in this size being sold Selenium Red 1 other time and that was with a Gallery out of Great Barrington, Mass. I have seen this form in all the Aurenes, French Blue, Jade Green, Amber and several other colors in the past 30 years. I can hardly remember one in Selenium Red. Those of you whom collect Steuben Selenium Red will surely welcome this wonderful vase into your collection. I'm sure the buyer will be very please with their purchase. This vase was made Circa 1910-1920.
