Sold

For sale is a very beautiful piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is a "Peacock Blue Flower Bud" vase. The vase is done in LCT Tiffany's highly sought after Blue Favrile iridescent glass. This bud vase has some size to it as it stands just shy of 12" at 11 7/8". The top opening is 1 5/8" in diameter outside measurement. The foot or bottom has a diameter of 4 1/4" at it widest point.

This flower bud vase displays a very Tiffany shape that is called an "Inverted Trumpet" but I think that it resembles a beaker that you would find in chemistry class. The vase starts out with a wide bottom that tapers in at an angle as it rises up to a point where the cylindrical shape receiver shoots straight up and keeps its basic circular shape. The blue iridescence is just splendid as you can see beautiful peacock blue purple, with gold and silver. The blue on this vessel is so smooth it reminds me of Steuben's glass when you rub it across your face.

This bud vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is some wear along the outer bottom edge and in indicative of normal age wear. The vase has a small inclusion in the neck of the vessel. I only noticed this upon close inspection. The vase is properly signed in a counter clockwise fashion. It is the etched Script Signature mark which reads "183 P 1117 L.C. Tiffany-Favrile". I believe the shape number is "183". Since this vase is signed with a prefix letter "P" it can be dated with accuracy. This vase was made circa 1901. It appears that is was going to get and "X 183" but that is scratched out. The "X" would have signified an experimental piece at the time.

This is a quality piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The Blue Favrile, Aurene iridescence is just outstanding!! This is a very nice example of this form and color. It is amazing that this vase has survived over 115 years without getting any kind of damage. Those of you who collect the Blue Favrile, Aurene Flower forms will surely welcome this fine addition.
