For sale is a very nice desk set item made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The pattern is the ever popular and highly collected "Grapevine" desk set pattern. This is known as a calendar in the Tiffany Studios Grapevine desk set catalog. This was often substituted by customers as a picture frame.
The calendar is a good size as it stands 8 5/8" wide by 7 1/8" tall, and is 3 1/2" deep when the easel is set up. The calendar or picture frame opening is 4 3/4" wide by 3 1/4" tall. This is a front measurement from beaded border to beaded border. The back side shows a larger measurement as it is 5" wide by 3 9/16" tall.
The calendar displays one of the nicest Tiffany green/brown with accents of red Patina that I have seen on a desk set item in quite awhile. The acid etched pattern of grapes, leaves and stems has been a popular pattern among LC Tiffany collectors for years. The frame has the gold green Favrile opalescent glass along with the beaded border. This is considered the most desired in the Grapevine desk set pieces to collect.
The calendar/picture frame is considered to be in excellent as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or to any of the glass or frame. The calendar shows minimal wear. I have taken pictures of all 4 corners. The quality is outstanding!! The frame is signed on the bottom with the "Tiffany Studios New York" impressed signature mark and the model or pattern number 939.
Truly a quality find in excellent to mint condition. This calendar/picture frame was made circa 1902-1915. Tiffany started numbering his desk set pieces usually with a 3 digit number after 1902. Since this has a 3 digit number we know it was made after 1902. I'm positive the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. The quality and condition just doesn't get any better than this one!!
