Hammered

$5,950.00

For sale is a beautiful hammered cast iron 5 light chandelier made by an unknown maker but definitely from the Arts and Crafts period. It has a Handel quality to it. The chandelier has 5 original signed Quezal art glass lighting shades made by The Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company of Maspeth (Queens) Long Island, New York. The fixture measures 35" tall from the bottom of center shade to the back side of the ceiling canopy. It is roughly 17 1/2" in diameter with the shades installed. This is an ideal size for foyer with 10-12' ceiling or over dining room table.

The frame is quite heavy and is made of hand hammered cast iron. It has 5 pendants that extend down from a circular frame that houses 5 2 1/4" fitter lighting shades. The circular frame has a Greek key arts and crafts style to it. There are 4 buttressed style straps that extend upwards meeting each other at the cup and loop that attaches the chain. The frame, buttress straps, chain loop and even the ceiling canopy is all hand hammered. The fitter cups that holds the shades resemble a flower. These are also hand hammered. The fixture has 5 original Quezal Hooked Feather Pull art glass lighting shades. The sockets are original to the fixture and are key less. They are each signed with the capital letter "E" with an arrow going threw it. They were early makers of high quality lighting parts.

This Arts and Crafts chandelier is in excellent condition. The condition of the frame, shades and component parts is excellent for over 100 years of use. This fixture has been professionally rewired using all the original metal parts, including the original fitter screws for the shade holders. The only mark I could find was on the top side if the flower fitter cups and each one was marked "3035 H" in raised relief. Could this possibly be "Handel"?? The quality level of this fixture sure meets their quality level if not better. The shades are all marked "Quezal" in the collar and are almost perfect with no chips, nicks, or dings. One shade has a minuscule flea nick and is really not worth mentioning.

Purchase with confidence as these Arts and Crafts chandeliers in hand hammered metal are almost impossible to find today, especially of this quality level. This chandelier will enhance any Mission, Arts and Crafts style home and is a worthy investment. This chandelier was made circa 1905-1915.
