Lustre

$495.00

For sale is a goose neck lamp base with a wonderful Lustre Art of Long Island, NY glass shade. The table lamp is a nice size for the desk or bureau. It stands 16 3/8" tall and 12 1/2-13" deep with shade installed. The shade itself has a diameter of 4 1/2" and is 4 3/4" tall out of the base. I do not know the maker of the base but I do know it was made sometime after 1930. It has a fitter that works with 2 1/4" shades such as this one.

The table lamp displays an early 20th century decorative style by combining art glass and metal together. The entire lamp base is made of solid brass except the thumbscrews and is further embellished with acanthus leaves. These leaves are adjustable as each one has a set screw so you can change the way this lamp looks from time to time. The Gold Bell art glass shade does nothing but compliment this look. The lamp is done in what we call a "Gooseneck Style" It has a single light porcelain socket that can handle high heat and it is wired with the antique style gold rayon lamp cord. You can turn it on with the low-high then off clicker switch.

The shade is absolutely beautiful. It is a ribbed bell shape and it is made by The Lustre Art Glass Company. The shade is an excellent example as there are no cracks, nick chips or dings. It has a wonderfully rolled top fitter edge. The shade is signed in a etched counter clock wise fashion "Lustre Art".

The lamp base is considered to be in very good condition. It does shows minor signs of wear common with its age. It fully works the way it was intended too as it was recently rewired. The base is unsigned and I do not know who made this. I'm positive the buyer will be quite pleased with their purchase. The shade was made Circa 1918-1925 and I believe the base was made after 1930.

I recommend using a 40 watt bulb as this a nice accent lamp. There are vent holes in the top cap to allow the heat to escape. When assembling this lamp, I also recommend that you loosen the screws slightly once the shade is mounted to the fitter to allow for heat expansion with the glass when it gets warm from the light bulb.
