Steuben

$1,195.00

For sale is a rare and wonderful piece of art glass blown by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. The item is a "Mat-su-no-ke" large bulbous trumpet form and it is blown in one of Frederick Carder's nicest combination of glass colors. The combination of glass colors is called "Colorless with Cinnamon Cintra". The vase has some size to it as it stands just shy of 12" at 11 15/16" tall. It measures 6 1/2" in diameter outside applied decor measurement. The foot has a diameter of 3 3/4" and the mouth or opening has a diameter of 5 7/8" outside lip measurement.

The vase displays a very clear colorless crystal background color glass that is accented with a Cinnamon Cintra glass applied handles, lip wrap and applied decorations. The applied handled has a long wavy tail in which there are 3 applied shell or scallop shaped leaves. The glass is very smooth to the touch on the inside and out and it looks and feels quite solid. The exterior bottom foot's is wide and the proportions are good. When flicked with your finger it rings like fine crystal.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are scratches along the underside bottom and a few on the lower exterior and this is typical of normal age wear. This is very hard to see when displayed. The piece is not signed but there is no mistake as to who made this. It also has a polished countersunk pontil, the finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass.

This is a quality piece of Steuben Art Glass that is not so commonly found. I'm quite sure the Steuben Collector that purchases this vase will be extremely pleased. This is shape number 3330 as seen in the Paul Gardner Book "The Glass of Frederick Carder". I will also attach a link to the Steuben Club archives of shapes to show this exact same form and similar color below. This is the largest piece of Mat-Su-No-Ke that I have ever owned nor seen. I have seen the 10" version of this and others, but I have never seen the 12" and would say this size is quite Rare!! This piece was made circa 1922-1932.
