For sale is very lovely piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is a "Squat Flower Form" vase. It is done in Tiffany's highly sought after gold Favrile iridescent style of art glass. This vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 3/4" tall and the top opening has a diameter of 4 1/16" outside measurements. The foot has a diameter of 2 7/8".
The vase depicts a very pleasing flower form shape. The piece starts with a round foot with a short stem that rises upwards only a short distance. The stem attaches to the lower body of the vessel that flares out forming a wide bud. It then rolls back in and out forming a narrow horizontal neck. It then rolls back in and flares out ever so gently forming an irregular top lip. The top lip of the vase has flat 1/4 border. When looking straight into the vase it looks like a flower.
The vase has a brilliant gold iridescent finish both inside and out. The iridescence in the foot is outstanding. The blues, purples and fuchsia are a real crowd pleaser. The detailed ribbing in the foot give an added appeal. The foot is so delicate and thin it is amazing that it has survived all these years without damage. The underside bottom jumps at you with the brilliance of the iridescence. The glass looks metallic yet it is ever so fragile art glass.
This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. There are no excuses to be made for this example. I cannot find scratches as well. Truly a superior example of this form and color. The vase is properly signed with the counter clockwise etched script signature mark that reads "L.C.T." along with number "4001 B" to the right of this. The suffix letter "B" helps me date this piece to have been made circa 1907.
This is a quality piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The gold Favrile, Aurene iridescence and form was executed by a master and is just outstanding!! The iridescence rivals Steuben's Gold Aurene!! I'm quite sure the buyer will be delighted with their purchase.
