For Sale is a Lovely piece of Art Pottery made by The Van Briggle Pottery Company of Colorado Springs, Colorado. This Vase is known as a "Stylized Flower" Cabinet Bud Vase and is Shape number #841 in The Van Briggle Catalog Line. The Vase Stands 6" tall and is 2 3/4" in diameter at the widest point. The Vase is made in one of Van Briggle's most highly collected glazes known as "Mountain Craig" Brown.
The Vase depicts an array of Stylized 3 Petal Flowers at the top of the Vessel. These Flowers resemble Iris's. Each one of these Flowers are enclosed in a raised stylized Frame with their tails reaching to the bottom border. The Matte Brown Glaze with a Green Over spray on the Flowers gives this piece that earthy realistic appearance. The Vase resembles shape number 121 but it is definitely shape #841 in the early Van Briggle Catalog pages.
The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The inside of the vase shows minimal wear. This piece is signed on the bottom with the Impressed Van Briggle Double A Logo Mark along with "VAN BRIGGLE" in large Block Letters and U.S.A. underneath it. This mark clearly date this to have been made in the early 1920's.
The Mountain Craig formula was lost in the 1935 Flood and none were made after this date. This is a wonderful hard to find form in any condition. Those of you who collect Arts and Crafts Design Pottery will surely welcome this addition into your collection. I am sure it will look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase.
This piece was made circa 1921-1927.
