Van

Sold

For Sale I have an outstanding piece of Art Pottery made by The Van Briggle Pottery Company of Colorado Springs, Colorado. This Vase is known as a Squat Vase and is Shape number #510 in The Van Briggle Catalog Line. The Vase Stands 4 5/8" tall and is 7 3/4" in diameter. The Vase is made in one of Van Briggle's most highly collected glazes known as "Mountain Craig" Brown.

The Vase depicts an array of Tobacco Leaves surrounding the Shoulder of the piece with each one having a swirling stem rising to the left from the bottom of the vessel. The Matte Brown Glaze with a Green Over spray on the leaves gives this piece that earthy realistic appearance. The mold is Sharp with wonderful detail.

The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. I was told there was a Professional repair on the top inside rim of this piece. I have looked at this area and cannot see where the repair is. The inside of the vase shows minor wear. This piece is signed on the bottom with the Impressed Van Briggle Double A Logo Mark along with "VAN BRIGGLE" in large Block Letters and U.S.A. impressed underneath it. This would date this piece to the 1920's because of the Impressed U.S.A. Mark.

The Mountain Craig formula was lost in the 1935 Flood and none were made after this date. This is a wonderful hard to find form in any condition. Those of you who collect Arts and Crafts Design Pottery will surely welcome this addition into your collection. I am sure it will look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Bookcase.
